“Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you, and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.” (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium 164)

I invite you to sit with that message a little while. Read it again.

This message is what Pope Francis calls the “kerygma”; the heart of the Gospel; the News announced to us that changes us, that changes our existence, because God is Good and he loves us.

My prayer for you in this moment is that you would hear these words and that the gift of faith would be kindled in your heart, and that you would reach out to Jesus and say to him: “O Jesus, I abandon myself to you. Jesus, you take over.”

If you feel lost and alone right now, remember: Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you, and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you. Let Jesus take over.

If you feel stressed and anxious… let Jesus take over.

If you worry about money or about the future… let Jesus take over.

If you are concerned with your education or your vocation… let Jesus take over.

If you have housing issues… let Jesus take over.

If you have health issues… let Jesus take over.

If you wrestle with your identity or with negative reputation… let Jesus take over.

If you or your family struggles with unemployment, financial issues, or drugs and addictions… let Jesus take over.

If you have a negative peer group or family breakdown… let Jesus take over.

In all these things, remember the Gospel: Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you, and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.

If you struggle with anything, remember the Gospel and cast your cares on Jesus because he cares for you. He will give you his peace, a peace no one else can ever give. He will come to you and he will dwell with you and he will love you.

Then with Jesus close to you: Go tell the world! You know how the world is hurting. You know how you have been hurting. The world needs Jesus, and you know his name. Go set the world on fire.

Come Holy Spirit! O God, you sent your Son into the world to be our Savior and Redeemer; grant, we pray, to raise us up as missionaries of the Kingdom of your Son; so that, in walking with Jesus close to us, we might lift up others into closeness with him, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
