Q. What is NET's Mission??

A. NET challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church by:

-  proclaiming the Gospel of Christ through a personal witness of faith
-  inviting young people to live for Christ
-  forming young people in Christian character through the study and practice of our faith
-  equipping youth workers and young adults with the ministry skills needed for evangelization

Q. What are NET's Activities?

A. NET has six major activities.

NET Training:  Every year, NET trains 100 young adults in faith formation, evangelization and retreat ministry skills to serve on NET ministry teams.  NET also trains other youth workers from around the world in youth evangelization.

NET Retreats:  NET ministry teams travel to dioceses across the country, leading high-energy retreat experiences to bring the Gospel to youth.

LIFELINE:  800-1000 local youth attend NET's monthly Mass & evening program in St. Paul

Discipleship Weeks:  Five-day retreats throughout the U.S. designed to educate young people in the Catholic faith and to equip them to share it with others

Discipleship and Evangelization Program (DEP):  NET offers intense training to young people who can't give a year of service on the road but still want to receive formation in Christian living and skills for evangelization.

Youth Ministry Leadership Training: NET offers opportunities for youth ministers to gather for prayer, support and practical lessons on ministering in today's society and keeping young people involved.

Q. How Did NET Get Started?

A. NET Ministries began as an extension of a Catholic Youth Center retreat program in the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis. A group of Catholics dedicated to reaching out to young people pooled their resources to form NET. A month-long experimental traveling retreat team was sent out in January of 1980.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. In the fall of 1981, the first September through May team, comprising twelve Catholic young adults, was sent out to conduct retreats in nine dioceses. Word spread, and requests from other dioceses poured in and NET began to grow.

Q. How is NET connected to the Catholic Church?

A. NET is under the ecclesiastical vigilance of Archbishop Harry J. Flynn of the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis. NET's national and international ministry is governed by a board of directors with Archbishop Flynn also serving as President.

Q. What does a NET team accomplish in a year?

A. In an average 9 month NET season, each NET Retreat Team will:

* travel 20,000 miles
* serve 9 to 11 dioceses
* facilitate close to 120 retreats
* stay in 105 host homes
* reach 8,500 young people one on one with the Gospel

Q. Why has NET been so successful?

A. Foremost, Prayer. The team members place a premium on personal and corporate prayer, relying on the Holy Spirit to prepare the hearts of the young people. In the words of Pope John Paul II, "It is the Spirit who impels us to proclaim the great works of God".

Secondly, because of the team members themselves. They model for youth what it is like for a young person to have a personal relationship with God.

In addition, team members challenge the youth. They not only model the joy of faith and proclaim the blessings available in Christ, but also clearly put forth the need for young people to rise to the challenge of answering Jesus' call to "Come follow me".

Q. Where does NET serve?

A. NET is an international ministry.

Each year, NET teams serve in over 60 US dioceses in 28 states
NET has offices and programs in Ottawa, Canada and Brisbane, Australia
NET has sent mission teams to Germany, Guam, Honduras, Mexico, Ireland, Uganda and many other countries

Q.How is NET funded?

A. NET is a nonprofit organization incorporated in the state of Minnesota funded through individual donations, program fees and grants.

Q. What is the commitment to serve with NET?

A. To serve with NET, team members commit to:

-  Serve for nine months from August to May
-  Raise sponsorship from their community in support of their year
-  Travel 20,000 miles in a van as part of their team of 10 or 11 men and women volunteers
-  Lead retreats six days a week
-  Allowing their personal relationship with God to serve as witness to His love and mercy

Q. How can I join in the mission of NET?

A. We gladly welcome any way that you want to help!

-  If you are between the ages of 18 and 28, you can apply to serve as a NET team member.
-  If you are unable to serve as a team member, you can support NET with your prayers, finances, and volunteer service.
