The mission of NET is to “challenge young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church”.

At the beginning of this missionary journey, we were eager to engage any and all youth in this great commission. Little did we know that our team falls into the “young Catholics” category as well. As a team, we have been challenged by the example of Christ to love and glorify his name and embrace the life of the Church every day.

Our primary goal as a team is to love each other as Christ has loved us.

This love looks different for each person and relationship, which creates a sense of diversity that is one of the most beautiful parts of our team. We strive to love each other in the ways that we receive and need to be loved. Sometimes this looks like an intentional conversation, or a meaningful hug. Other times it is a teammate playing a game we know they don’t enjoy, for the sake of the team. Intentionality in the van, in sitting in different spots or not sitting alone, is another way that we love each other. Many times we love each other by taking our responsibilities seriously and following through on commitments to each other.  Acts 2:42-47 describes the way that Christians in community should live together in Christ’s name:

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47)

This is how Team 14 strives to embrace the life of the Church.

We encourage each other in prayer, we desire to have all things in common, and are willing to divide our physical and spiritual possessions according to each person’s need. The Lord has given us so many graces to aim for these goals and there are still many ways that we fall short.

We find strength in the awe and wonder the Lord gives us, we find strength in the sacraments, and we continue to pray for exultation and sincerity of heart.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, our team has seen wonders and signs in the youth we serve. Youth that we are meeting at school lunches and parish events are changing their lives and seeking a real relationship with Jesus. The love that our team shares with one another spills onto the youth that we meet every day. We see young women realize the dignity and beauty that God made in them. We see young men choose to live moral lives and pursue Christ in everything they do.

Through it all, we pray that all the students we meet will continue to run to Jesus and live in love in the sacraments and in Scripture.
